Music revealing history. History inspiring music.
Announcing the 2021 Season!
The White Spire Music inaugural season consists of two digital performances exploring history through music.
The Cemetery Project features the Essex Piano Trio, who were so inspired by Slonimsky's piece 'Gravestones at Hancock, NH', that they commissioned Salem composer Ian Wiese to write 'How Blessings Brighten' using epitaphs from the Old Burying Point in Salem. We will also be joined by Wenham Museum's Exhibits Curator Jane Bowers.

Through art songs by Black composers, History Through Their Voices invites exploration into various aspects of Black history. Spirituals, art songs, and opera excerpts comment upon topics such as resistance, love, and life, while illuminating a wide array of musical styles such as ragtime, romanticism, and contemporary approaches. In this Black Music Month celebration, history education through music takes center stage!
